Illustrations & Blooms

One of my favourite things to do is pair pressed flowers with pages from books. Whether text or illustration, I love the look of the flowers next to it. You can look at some more of my pressed flower creations here & here

When I was younger, maybe 14, I started putting pressed flowers into my favourite books : Anne of Green Gables, Jane Eyre, Pride & Prejudice. This little thing that I did continued the more I found flowers to press and had books to read. It isn't anything hard, but the joy that I found when I reopened a book to discover a forgotten piece of nature, that was enough for me. Now, I have books I haven't opened in years, and I wonder if I ever placed something within its pages. Love the curiosity. And with Anne of Green Gables, Jane Eyre, and Pride & Prejudice, I warn all of my friends before hand to open the book slowly and carefully.

Maybe that is where my love for flowers and book started? I do not know. My mom shared her love with flowers (dried and alive, fresh from the garden or store bought) as well as her love of reading. My dad shared with me his love for pressing flowers and love of classic literature. Maybe it was just inevitable.

Regardless of whatever it was that started me on this journey, here are some of the latest pieces that I made for a friend.
I found a Children's book of poetry and what drew me to purchasing this book (second hand, falling apart) was the illustrations with its pages. They were sketches of themes from the poetry it was beside, and I loved the feel of it. I started pairing my nature with each of them, just to see if I like it. And I do. What do you think? Do you like the mix of flower and illustration? xo
