Johnston Canyon Hike & Our Last Camp of the Year

A couple weekends ago, our little family decided that we needed to try for one more camping trip before the weather got too cold. Originally, as dreamers often do, we had goals to camp every other weekend. Since Bug loves to be outdoors, it was our goal to spend as much time out there: exploring, collecting, finding, photographing, having an adventure. However, due to limited funds as well as a much busier summer than anticipated, we were not able to keep our every other weekend camping goal.
(Black Pepper Bacon cooked on the fire is the BEST!)
When the opportunity for us came to spend some time in the Canmore/Banff area - we jumped at the chance. My husband has really gotten into climbing lately and his buddy wanted to do a multi-pitch with him. Since Bug & I are not into climbing, we hung out at the townsites and made our own fun. When the boys were finished, we found a campsite and settled in for the night.

The following morning, before spending some shopping time in Banff we headed out to Johnston Canyon for a hike. This has to be one of my favourite hikes (so far) that we have walked. The scenery is so beautiful and the air is thick with smell of greenery. It was very encouraging to walk this hike again. When Bug was about five months old, we walked this hike, my knee acted up and this hike became impossible to walk. With a lot more stretching and working out under my belt, and Bug being 20 months, this hike was a lot of fun.
I have yet to meet an angry person on a hike. Everyone is so lovely, so helpful, so encouraging. I met someone who helped me with my camera and some of the confusing settings on it, someone who stopped to chat with Bug, who pointed to things I might have missed. Everyone seems to be at peace when we go out and walk. Relaxed. Happy. Content? I love meeting people on trails.
We weren't able to make it to the Inkpots again this year due to a time crunch, but the hike to the upper falls was so lovely. If ever you are in the need of a good hike, and are in the area of course, I highly recommend Johnston Canyon. Husband and I have made it a goal to hike this trail once a year with Bug.

I would love to hear what your favourite hike is. I am trying to make a bucket list of all the neat hikes around the world - I think it would be amazing to hike the world, and document it here. Thank you so much for reading. xo
