Homemade Grape Scented Play-dough

We made play-dough! When I was little, my mom would make us homemade play-dough in all sorts of different colours. We loved playing with it and my mother loved making it. She said it was so easy and enjoyed the recipe that, at the time, she had memorized.

We were unable to make the same recipe that my mom used for us once upon a time, however, we did find one online that looked promising. Wanting to start the tradition of making homemade play-dough for Bug, we took a chance and gathered all of the ingredients together.
At first we were not sure if we liked this recipe. After we mixed everything together, we had to wait a while for the dough to cool down before we could knead it without burning our hands. The colour also seemed too dark and slightly spotty. Once the dough cooled down enough, we finished kneading & found that the colour mixed in the rest of the way, although it still was very dark.

After it cooled down a little more, we gave it to Bug to play with. She really liked it and I enjoyed the grape smell that the kool-aid gave it. The texture and resilience of the dough is a really good fit for Bug as well. She can mould it, break it apart, stretch it, and play with it as she wants, and I found that this recipe is slightly stronger than the store bought play-dough we have at home. I also really like the amount of play-dough one recipe makes - which is way more than all of the store-bought play dough we have at home. BONUS. This recipe is a win in my books, even though the colour was not as purple as I would have hoped. Bug enjoyed playing with it, and in the end, that is all that matters.

Since there are so many different kinds of recipes out there, I would love to know which recipes are your favourite. Let me know in the comments below or share a link with me, I would love to test them and see how Bug enjoys playing with them.  I am also hoping we will find my mom's old recipe to try as well, so fingers cross, we will find it. xoxo
