Art Journal :: Undertaking Creativity

January went by way too fast for me. I have to be honest with you, at the beginning of the year I took a bit of a break from all crafty things. Like three weeks of a hiatus. Exhaustion just hit me and I spent the majority of my time on writing or reading or playing with Bug. I left my knitting needles alone as well as any other project I had planned to complete within the month. Including this one. Eep! Sadly that means that I did not complete this project, however, due to all the many different elements that can be used in art journaling (the sky is the limit) I am thinking that I need to turn this into a year round craft anyways. I want to explore many different medias instead of what I normally use, so now I have a new plan. Rather than deeming this project a failure as I didn't complete it in the allotted time I gave myself, I am going to turn this into a bucket list goal - not to complete it by a certain time, but to continually allow myself to play and have fun, learning about different ways to express myself.

First off, I would like to share with you some of the tools that I used for my art journal. I focussed heavily on collage.
Next I would like to share my project with you. I bought a hardcover flower book and I decided to use that as my foundation of my art journal. My goal is to turn each page into a creative outlet that expressions my individuality thought as well as my love for flowers.
These are some fabric flowers that I made by taking the middle of a scrap piece of fabric, rolling it until the edges made petal forms. I then stapled them onto my page so that they would hold. I am hoping to add more to this page.
I am very pleased with how the art journal is turning out. I cannot wait to add elements of paint and paper flowers which would add dimension and texture. I will continually be adding pictures to show you my process as the year goes on.

If you have any art journal pages that you would like to submit onto the blog, please let me know. I will keep this post open until the end of March. It is never too late to finish a project. Some projects may never be finished. Thats what I like about art, its the process. Just work and create until maybe one day the project yells "I am done."
February: Origami.
Its a new month so time for a new project. I love origami; the way it looks and how simple (most projects) it is to work with. I want to create something fun and colourful for a room in my house. I am not sure yet if I will make something for Bug's room or create an art piece for our living room, but I am excited for this challenge. Below are some wonderful ideas that I found on Pinterest.
Feel free to join in with me on this venture. At the beginning of March I will be posting pictures of what I have created. If you would like for me to post your own creation, be sure to send me a picture at or send me a message on my Facebook Page. Happy crafting. xoxo
