Journal Day #10 - Talents

Quite simply, what are you good at? All of us have particular strengths- what are yours? This week, talk about these talents, big or small. Ideas: discuss how you use these things in your daily life or job, how you discovered a knack for this or that, perhaps even touch on whether or not you are passionate about the things you're good at. From Sometimes Sweet

At first I was really excited about this prompt. It seemed such an easy thing to talk about. The things that I am good at. Then, while writing, I just stared at my computer screen, drawing a complete blank. Ha, what am I good at? I don't want to put knitting down, or reading ... I wanted to have a deeper answer than just an activity I am good at. I want to answer this question with something that really defines me. Oh boy, here it goes.

I am good at listening. There is nothing I love more than meeting up with a friend for coffee and just sharing from the heart. I love listening to the stories that they have. I love having the pleasure of being a part of their lives in that way. I love listening to my family members share their experiences, ideas, and dreams. I love it when anybody is comfortable enough to share with me their hardships and I love being there for them, praying, loving, growing, hoping, waiting anxiously, just being with them - in that raw moment of emotion, whether happy or sad. I have so many wonderful memories of just listening to people, spending the time and having that moment be about them and not about me.

With that being said, I am also good at chatting with complete strangers. I get this gift from my mom and I know I am good at it. I love having random conversations with them about ... whatever. My husband has stopped asking me if I know the person I am chatting with in Costco because he has learned that "No, I don't know that person, but Yes we are still talking like we have known each other for years." I just love people. I know this is something I am good at. Its why I like working customer service. It just fits. I am good at talking and listening, and customers, for the most part, like that. I just like being a part of peoples lives. I like being there for them, serving them, helping them, sharing with them, learning from them, seeing how relationships grow and change.

So at the end of all that, I realize that I am, in a way, a peoples person. Which is very odd for me to say because I grew up being very shy. I just enjoy being in the presence of others. I love getting the chance to share from the heart. I am good at it and I love it.
